There has been a lot of buzz lately in the media about gender-based inequalities and race-based inequalities. “You must walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.” A powerful quote, but not always doable.
So my Theoretical Thursday is this:
If you had to change yourself for 1 year, would you rather change a) your gender or b) your skin color?
I think race. I have had many conversations about not understand what it is like being a person of color in the U.S., and while just changing skin color may not let me understand, perhaps it could help my empathy.
Yeah, Oz, this was a tough one. I really wanted it to be about understanding. I found it interesting if people thought they could get more out of changing one aspect or the other. Thanks for sharing you thoughts!
i’ve always said that men and women need to spend, respectively, 18 yrs. and 18 minutes as the other gender, so i’d choose gender, especially for both pain and pleasure reasons. then i could make an informed comparison.
That’s a hard one; if I had to chose I’d probably have to go with race.
