Question to Christa: “Many people dismiss the genre as pure escapism—and nothing more. What would you say is the purpose of fantasy and sci-fi?”

“My favorite part about writing fantasy/scifi is that even without trying, my stories mean something. Whether they are a reflection of conquering inner demons or finding one’s true identity, I can bring forward these amazing philosophical revelations while adding the icing of fantastical places. This way the reader enjoys being swept along the story, but also ends up really wondering about themselves, their lives, and the universe.”

I am so honored to announce that I was chosen to be the Author of the Day, featured on the ManyBooks website!

as a kid, alice was my favorite book, pure fantasy. not only was i able to escape into a wonderland of fabulous creatures and zany characters, it opened my eyes to the spunkiness that alice embodied, and gave me a role model for my own life. she is still my favorite character of all time for that reason – i owe her an adventurous perspective on life, and the inner courage it took to follow the road no matter which way it led. like the cheshire cat said, no matter what road you take, you’ll always end up somewhere. i’ve lived a fabulous life of somewheres.
