I am SO pleased to share with you the review I just received from Kelly Starsmore over at Twin Cities Geek. The MN magazine covers everything “geek” in the Twin Cities area, from local authors and artists, to fun get-togethers like the Renaissance Festival, to listings of upcoming amazing events.
I sent Kelly an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of ILLUSION and am delighted to show you her review:
“Illusion by Christa Yelich-Koth, which will be officially released in September, is a sci-fi novel and the first book of a planned series. It takes place primarily on a large spaceship, which might normally make a reader nervous—but the discovery of the ship and the sheer number of different crew members and plot lines are more than enough to keep this small space from ever seeming stuffy and boring. The story centers on a woman, Daith, whose memories have been erased. She must choose a path between discovering her lost memories or uncovering powers that she has been told she has in this new alien environment.
The story begins fast-paced, but it quickly slows down as Daith finds herself in a strange room, unaware of her past. It quickly become evident that she is special and part of a very intricate plan to help bring peace to the world. Initially, the biggest concern I had was the amount of alien races aboard the ship. Most had humanoid features with small differences—such as yellow skin, a tail, or claws—but some are completely inhuman, like a pink blob named Dr. Ludd. However, they quickly became a part of the colorful background and helped add to the environment surrounding Daith.
The most interesting and wonderful piece of this book is the flow. As mentioned, the story starts off pretty quickly, but once Daith enters the ship’s environment, there is a halt and then another slow build-up. The last half of the book felt like whirlwind, but in a wonderful refreshing and exhilarating way. As the pieces of the plot unfold, you are tossed around at guessing who is the true evil. I will not give away too much of this plot, as it is something you will want to discover and unravel yourself. I eagerly await the next book in the series.”
